BLAINE, MN

The Blaine Police Department is marking April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a renewed focus on survivor support, access to services, and community-based prevention efforts.

In a public statement, the department reaffirmed its commitment to supporting individuals affected by sexual violence, holding offenders accountable, and working with local partners to reduce incidents through education and outreach.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is recognized nationally each April to increase public understanding of sexual violence and connect individuals with available resources.

Local Support Services Available

Officials emphasized that confidential help is available through several local and national organizations serving Anoka County residents.

  • Alexandra House (Anoka County): 763-780-2330
A nonprofit organization providing 24-hour crisis response, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and support services for individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence.
  • Anoka County Victim/Witness Services: 763-324-5550
A county program that assists victims involved in criminal cases, including guidance through the court process and access to support resources.
  • National Sexual Assault Hotline (RAINN): 800-656-HOPE or online at rainn.org
A nationwide, confidential service offering 24/7 support via phone or online chat.

These services are available regardless of whether an individual chooses to report an incident to law enforcement.

Emphasis on Confidential and Accessible Help

The department stressed that individuals seeking assistance have multiple options, including confidential support that does not require immediate police involvement.

Advocacy organizations and hotlines allow individuals to speak with trained professionals, explore their options, and receive guidance at their own pace.

Community Role in Prevention

In addition to response services, Sexual Assault Awareness Month highlights the importance of prevention through community awareness, education, and early intervention.

Law enforcement agencies increasingly work alongside nonprofits, schools, and community groups to promote understanding of consent, healthy relationships, and available support systems.

A Clear Message

The Blaine Police Department’s message is direct:

Help is available. Support is confidential. And no one has to navigate the aftermath of sexual violence alone.
