BLAINE, MN (July 3, 2026) As Blaine residents prepare to celebrate Independence Day, city officials are reminding the public of temporary municipal office closures, continued public safety operations and one of the community's largest annual traditions, the Independence Day fireworks display at the National Sports Center.

The Blaine Police Department and the City of Blaine announced that City Hall, administrative offices and Community Standards offices, located at 10801 Town Square Drive NE, will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Because City Hall is routinely closed on weekends, municipal offices will remain closed through Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, before reopening for normal business on Monday, July 6.

City officials emphasized that while administrative services will pause for the holiday, public safety operations will continue without interruption. The Blaine Police Department, fire and emergency medical services will remain fully staffed and available around the clock throughout the holiday weekend. Residents requiring emergency assistance are urged to call 911, while non-emergency administrative services will resume when offices reopen Monday.

The return to regular operations on July 6 also marks the resumption of the City's public meeting schedule. The Blaine City Council is scheduled to hold a work session beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by its regular council meeting at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

National Sports Center Fireworks Return Saturday Night

The centerpiece of Blaine's Independence Day celebration will once again be the community's annual fireworks display at the National Sports Center, one of the region's largest Fourth of July gatherings.

The free public event will take place on Saturday, July 4, at the National Sports Center campus, 1750 105th Avenue NE, with fireworks scheduled to begin at approximately 10 p.m. The exact launch time may vary slightly depending on weather conditions and sunset.

Admission to the event is free, and free parking will be available in designated lots throughout the National Sports Center campus.

Each year, thousands of residents from Blaine and neighboring communities gather at the complex to celebrate Independence Day, making the fireworks display one of the city's signature summer events.

Officials Encourage Early Arrival

With large crowds expected, city officials are encouraging spectators to arrive well before the scheduled start of the fireworks.

The City anticipates increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic on roads surrounding the National Sports Center during the hours leading up to the display and immediately afterward as attendees depart.

To help ease congestion, the City has published official parking maps, traffic guidance and event logistics through its Independence Day information page. Visitors are encouraged to review the recommended parking locations and traffic routes before leaving home.

Celebrate Safely

The Blaine Police Department is also reminding residents to celebrate responsibly throughout the holiday weekend.

Under Minnesota law, only certain non-explosive and non-aerial consumer fireworks, such as sparklers, fountains and cones, may be legally possessed and used by the public. Firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, missiles and other aerial or explosive fireworks remain prohibited for private use unless specifically authorized by permit or state law.

Officials encourage residents using legal fireworks to follow all manufacturer instructions, keep fireworks away from homes, vehicles and dry vegetation, supervise children at all times and completely extinguish used fireworks before disposal.

Motorists attending Saturday night's fireworks display should also expect temporary traffic delays as thousands of vehicles exit the National Sports Center following the conclusion of the event. Police officers and traffic personnel will be stationed throughout the area to assist with traffic control and pedestrian safety.
