MINNEAPOLIMEDIA SPORTS | Jordan Spieth Joins Scottie Scheffler in Star-Powered 3M Open Field Coming to Blaine
BLAINE, MN (July 13, 2026) The 2026 3M Open is assembling one of the most recognizable fields in its history, with three-time major champion Jordan Spieth joining world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.
Tournament officials confirmed Spieth’s commitment July 8. It will be his first appearance in Minnesota’s annual PGA Tour event.
The 3M Open tournament week runs July 20 through July 26, with official competition scheduled for July 23 through July 26.
Spieth’s addition gives the tournament another major attraction as organizers prepare to welcome golf spectators from across Minnesota and beyond.
Spieth Will Make His Blaine Debut
Spieth is one of the most recognizable players of his generation.
He has won 13 PGA Tour events, including the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 and The Open Championship in 2017. His most recent PGA Tour victory came at the 2022 RBC Heritage.
Spieth’s 2015 season established him among golf’s biggest stars. He won two major championships, finished second at the PGA Championship and came within a stroke of joining a playoff at The Open.
His career has included periods of injury and uneven results, but his shot-making ability and willingness to take aggressive lines have maintained his status as one of the sport’s largest spectator draws.
The 3M Open arrives at an important point in the PGA Tour season. Players near the FedExCup qualification line will be competing for points needed to reach the postseason.
The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings following the Wyndham Championship qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first event of the playoffs.
A strong performance in Blaine could therefore carry consequences beyond the tournament’s purse and trophy.
World No. 1 Scheffler Leads the Commitments
Scheffler’s decision to play in Blaine had already elevated interest in the 2026 tournament.
The world’s top-ranked player has become the dominant figure in men’s professional golf through consistent ball-striking, elite approach play and repeated victories against the PGA Tour’s strongest fields.
This will also be Scheffler’s first 3M Open appearance.
Securing the commitments of Scheffler and Spieth gives Minnesota spectators an uncommon opportunity to watch two of the sport’s most prominent American players in the same field.
Matsuyama adds another major champion. The Japanese star won the 2021 Masters, becoming the first Japanese man to capture one of golf’s four major championships.
He has played the 3M Open previously and finished tied for seventh during the tournament’s inaugural 2019 edition.
Other Established Players Join Field
The tournament has also announced commitments from Billy Horschel, Gary Woodland, Tom Hoge, Keith Mitchell and Joel Dahmen.
Woodland won the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, while Horschel is a former FedExCup champion. Hoge has Minnesota connections through his college golf career at Texas Christian University and his familiarity with Midwest golf audiences.
Defending champion Kurt Kitayama is expected to return, along with former 3M Open winners Jhonattan Vegas, Lee Hodges and Cameron Champ.
Player commitments can change before the tournament begins because of injuries, scheduling decisions, qualification developments or other circumstances.
A Major North Metro Event
The 3M Open has been held at TPC Twin Cities since becoming a PGA Tour event in 2019. It replaced the PGA Tour Champions tournament previously held at the Blaine course.
The tournament has developed into one of Minnesota’s most prominent annual sporting events, drawing spectators, volunteers, sponsors and national television coverage to the North Metro.
Its placement after The Open Championship and shortly before the FedExCup Playoffs can present recruiting challenges because some leading players rest following the final major championship of the year.
That makes the commitments from Scheffler, Spieth and Matsuyama particularly significant for the Blaine tournament.
Tournament week includes practice rounds, professional-amateur events, community programs and four days of official competition.
The final field will be confirmed closer to the opening round.
For the moment, the 2026 event is positioned to offer Minnesota golf fans one of the strongest collections of established stars, major champions and former tournament winners in 3M Open history.
