The latest Anoka County Highway Department construction report identifies work affecting communities including Blaine, Andover, Coon Rapids, Fridley, East Bethel and surrounding areas. Some projects involve continuing closures, while others will introduce new traffic configurations beginning this week.
Weather, construction conditions and contractor schedules may affect the timing of individual projects.
Construction began July 7 on a signal replacement and safety-improvement project at Northdale Boulevard, also known as County Highway 11, and Raven Street.
Initial work included sidewalk removal and traffic-control installation. During the week beginning July 13, the contractor is scheduled to close Raven Street and remove the existing traffic-signal system.
Drivers who regularly use the intersection should watch for posted detours and changing traffic controls.
The project is intended to replace the signal system and complete related safety improvements at the intersection.
Crews are continuing work along Round Lake Boulevard, or County Highway 9, between an area approximately 100 feet south of Bunker Lake Boulevard and 149th Lane.
During the previous week, contractors installed permanent pedestrian push buttons at the new traffic signals and completed catch-basin repairs near 143rd Avenue.
The next stage calls for removal and replacement of the concrete median on the west side of the Bunker Lake Boulevard and Round Lake Boulevard intersection.
A separate pavement-preservation project along Round Lake Boulevard is scheduled to begin Monday, July 13. Crews are expected to start by cutting pavement around catch basins that require repair. Once that work has been completed, contractors will remove sections of asphalt, concrete curb and concrete median.
Drivers should anticipate construction activity and possible delays throughout the corridor.
Mississippi Street, designated County Highway 6, remains closed between East River Road and University Avenue.
Contractors recently installed two layers of asphalt pavement. During the coming week, crews are scheduled to install a concrete sidewalk and drainage swale along the south side of the roadway.
Anoka County expects this segment of Mississippi Street to remain closed until approximately mid-August. Motorists should continue using the posted detour.
A significant traffic change is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, at the Crosstown Boulevard and 161st Avenue, also known as Constance Boulevard, intersection in Andover.
Contractors are building a roundabout at the intersection. Crews recently began installing asphalt for the current construction stage and are expected to complete that paving before moving traffic into a new configuration.
The July 15 switch is expected to reopen the eastern side of the intersection, allowing traffic approaching from the east to travel through it.
The county is advising motorists to follow the new detour and pay close attention to signs because the traffic pattern will differ from the existing configuration.
Reconstruction is also continuing on Baugh Street between 181st Avenue and Viking Boulevard.
The project includes safety improvements and shoulder widening. Crews are scheduled to excavate unsuitable material beneath the northbound lane between 188th and 194th avenues, then install sand, road fabric and drainage tile.
Anoka County says residents living along the construction area must continue using the northbound haul road to reach their homes.
The pavement-removal and replacement project on County Road 10 between Able Street and Pleasant View Drive is substantially complete.
Only minor punch-list work remains, according to the county.
Other projects remain in earlier stages. Utility relocation has been completed ahead of signal replacement work at 109th Avenue and Radisson Road, while construction at Lexington Avenue and County Road J is tentatively scheduled to begin in early September.
Motorists traveling through construction zones should reduce their speed, leave additional space between vehicles and remain alert for workers, equipment and temporary traffic controls.
The county publishes construction updates weekly during the roadwork season. Schedules remain subject to weather and other construction conditions.
