Crooked Lake Library in Coon Rapids and Mississippi Library in Fridley will close Sunday, September 13. Both branches are expected to reopen in December, although the county has not announced exact reopening dates.
Renovations at both locations will include remodeled restrooms and changes that will provide after-hours access to meeting rooms.
The Crooked Lake project will also add four private study rooms.
Improvements at Mississippi Library will include roof and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning work, along with sidewalk repairs.
Library users should plan ahead because return bins at the two branches will also close during construction. Patrons will not be able to enter the properties to return borrowed materials while the buildings are closed.
Books and other materials may be returned through 24-hour bins at other Anoka County Library locations.
August 31 will be the final day for patrons to place items on hold for pickup at Crooked Lake or Mississippi libraries. People placing holds after that date should select another branch as their pickup location.
Library patrons who use after-hours lockers may apply for a key fob and use lockers at Northtown Library in Blaine, Johnsville Library in Blaine or St. Francis Library. Those lockers are accessible throughout the year.
Anoka County cautions that public Wi-Fi service may also be unavailable at the affected properties during construction, including in the parking lots.
