MINNEAPOLIMEDIA SPORTS | Twins Rally Twice but Fall 11-6 to Tigers in 12 Innings at Target Field

Spencer Torkelson's two-run homer opened a five-run Detroit 12th inning after Minnesota erased deficits in both the eighth and 11th innings.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (September 3, 2026) The Minnesota Twins repeatedly fought their way back Wednesday night but could not produce one final comeback, falling 11-6 to the Detroit Tigers in 12 innings at Target Field.

Minnesota trailed 5-2 before mounting a three-run rally in the eighth inning.

Royce Lewis delivered the game-tying single.

The teams remained tied until the 11th, when Max Clark doubled home the go-ahead run for Detroit.

Minnesota answered again.

Luke Keaschall produced an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, extending the game at 6-6.

The Tigers finally broke it open in the 12th.

Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run home run, his 21st of the season, to give Detroit an 8-6 advantage.

Javier Báez later cleared the bases with a three-run double as the Tigers scored five times in the inning.

Minnesota could not answer.

The loss ended the Twins' three-game winning streak and prevented Minnesota from completing a three-game sweep.

Detroit rookie John Peck collected his first major league hits and drove in three runs.

Clark finished with three doubles and scored three times.

Minnesota received contributions from Lewis, Trevor Larnach, Ryan Jeffers and Brooks Lee during its comeback.

Jeffers recorded the 100th double of his major league career.

The Twins fell to 67-73 while Detroit improved to 64-75.

For Minnesota, the defeat was particularly frustrating because the club had twice done enough offensively to extend the game.

The Tigers simply produced the night's final and decisive rally.

Minnesota now moves deeper into September with 22 regular-season games remaining.
