MINNEAPOLIMEDIA SPORTS | Edwards Scores 47, but Timberwolves Suffer First Loss as Cavaliers Prevail in Overtime
Minnesota fell 127–125 in Cleveland on Monday, while the Vikings and Wild carried Sunday victories into an otherwise quiet day across the state’s seven major professional franchises.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 27, 2026). Anthony Edwards’ 47-point night could not preserve Minnesota’s unbeaten start. The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Timberwolves 127–125 in overtime Monday at Rocket Arena, dropping Minnesota to 3–1.
Cleveland Answers Minnesota’s Early Advantage
The Timberwolves established control early, but Cleveland’s response changed the game after halftime. Minnesota scored 31 points in the opening quarter and another 29 in the second, taking a 60–50 lead into the break.
Cleveland outscored Minnesota 36–26 in the third quarter, erasing the halftime deficit. Both teams scored 27 in the fourth, sending the game to overtime tied at 113.
The Cavaliers then won the extra period 14–12.

The scoring progression underscores where Minnesota lost its advantage: a productive first half gave way to a third quarter in which Cleveland drew level, leaving the outcome to late possessions and overtime execution.
James Harden supplied the floater that tied regulation, and Peyton Watson blocked Edwards near the end of the fourth quarter. Donovan Mitchell subsequently delivered important overtime baskets as Cleveland completed its comeback.
Mitchell finished with 26 points and seven assists, while Harden contributed 22 points and nine assists. Rudy Gobert collected 19 rebounds for Minnesota. Cleveland improved to 2–1.
The result ended Minnesota’s opening winning streak and gave the Timberwolves their first close-game defeat of the young season.
Vikings Carry Unbeaten Record Into the New Week
The Vikings did not play Monday. Their latest result remained Sunday’s 16–10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, which improved Minnesota to 6–0.
The team’s official game report emphasized another fourth-quarter defensive finish. Minnesota’s next challenge will be maintaining that unbeaten start after returning from its bye with a home victory. Sunday’s result belongs to October 25 and should be distinguished from Monday’s sports activity.
Wild’s Latest Win Included a Hughes Milestone
The Wild also had no Monday game. They beat Vancouver 4–2
