First Avenue and 7th St. Entry has been honored as the best music venue in the Midwest.
National music, TV and movie website Consequence of Sound this week revealed the results of its Hometowns of Consequence feature, which it describes as a "fan-led initiative honoring the best US music venues, the spaces that build community and allow culture to thrive."
Fans were asked to nominate a favorite local music venue, with the publication narrowing it down to four finalists from each region of the United States.
First Avenue was given the top honor for the Midwest in 2023, ranking ahead of The Beachland Ballroom and Tavern in Cleveland, Ohio; Knuckleheads in Kansas City, Missouri; and Metro in Chicago, Illinois.
Dayna Frank, owner and CEO of First Avenue Productions, reacted with the following statement:
First Avenue and 7th St. Entry has been hosting live music at its two venues since 1970. It's one of the longest-running, independently owned and operated venues in the country.
The venue has served as a launchpad for numerous musical acts, such as Prince, Lizzo, Soul Asylum, Hippo Campus, Semisonic, The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, and more.
