Let the fun debates begin.

Local tourism officials launched a new marketing campaign this week that declares Maple Grove as “The Restaurant Capital of Minnesota.”

“We do have chains, but we do have a lot of actual Maple Grove-based restaurants as well,” said Anne Anderson, general manager of Experience Maple Grove. “And there’s so many to choose from that we decided, hey, we’re the restaurant capital of Minnesota.”

Thursday night, the city’s tourism organization, Experience Maple Grove, gathered local officials — and people in Maple Grove’s hospitality industry — to celebrate the different strategies being implemented to draw people to the city.

That includes the bold announcement that Maple Grove is the state’s restaurant capital.

“We understand that we might ruffle a few feathers with that,” said Anne Anderson, general manager of Experience Maple Grove. “But again, it’s for fun, right. We know that we have a lot of restaurants to choose from here, and that’s the reason for it. We want people to come to Maple Grove.”

For the record, Maple Grove has 150 restaurants. For a list of all of them, you can find that on the Experience Maple Grove website.

The city will also launch a restaurant week event later this summer.
