The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating a police use-of-force incident related to the death of an infant in Brooklyn Park.
It happened Sunday morning around 3:52 a.m., when officers were dispatched to the 8700 block of Queens Gardens N. for a report of a baby not breathing, a news release says.
The 7-month-old was taken to a local hospital, where they later tragically died.
As officers still were investigating at the scene, they encountered an adult male with a gun around 4:41 a.m. — which led to one officer firing their weapon, police say.
The suspect was struck and soon taken to the hospital; he is expected to survive his injuries.
The BCA is handling the investigation, which is standard in cases of an officer-involved shooting.
