Coon Rapids is creating a bike lane demonstration area in partnership with Sand Creek Elementary and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The demo project is designed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. This is part of the City's Active Transportation Plan, which is currently under development thanks to a grant from MnDOT.
What to expect:
New on-street bike lane striping painted on both sides of 121st Avenue between Unity Street and Foley Boulevard.
New painted bump outs and medians with flexible posts at Olive Street and Sycamore Street. Additionally, a new painted median with flexible posts will be installed at Norway Street.
A parking lane will still be available on both sides of 121st Avenue (from Unity Street to Olive Street) between the bike lane and the curb.
Work will begin in mid-August and should be completed by the beginning of September.
