A Coon Rapids man now faces felony assault charges after police say he tried to take away a Brooklyn Center police officer’s service pistol.

Tamba Fallah, 40, was charged with two counts of assault and obstruction of a legal process after allegedly fighting with officers on Wednesday morning.

According to the criminal complaint:

Brooklyn Center policeresponded to a report of a “car prowler” near Noble Avenue and Brooklyn Boulevard.

Arriving officers found a suspect, later identified as Fallah, and asked him to talk near a squad car. He didn’t comply and officers attempted to handcuff him.

Fallah then struck an officer in the mid-upper torso and lower chest. A second officer then got involved in the struggle and all three fell to the ground.

The suspect got on top of one officer, tried to remove her firearm from her holster and pressed his forearm on her windpipe until she couldn’t breathe, the complaint said.

Eventually, officers arrested Fallah.

Both officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the fight.

Previous Complaint: Suspect Punched Officer in Face.

Fallah had a bench warrant from an unrelated incident in May.

According to the criminal complaint in that case, Fallah was pulled over on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Brooklyn Park. He refused to exit his vehicle and then fled the scene.

Officers followed Fallah, who drove to a residence.

As officers attempted to arrest him, he punched one of them in the face, the complaint said.
