Baxter Kidney Care Unit Selects Golden Valley for New ‘R&D Center of Excellence’
A medical facility worth about $40 million is headed to Golden Valley.
Baxter International’s kidney care division is building a new research and development facility, selecting Golden Valley as the location over Chicago.
The new facility is planned for a 90,000 square-foot vacant building at 201 General Mills Blvd.
This comes as a private equity group is in the process of buying out the kidney care division, with plans to rename it Vantive.
The company expects to use about $3 million in financial support and incentives from the state to relocate to the existing building.
“Baxter’s Kidney Care segment, to be named Vantive, will use this support from [the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development] to create a research and development center of excellence in Golden Valley, and expand our workforce focused on driving innovation in kidney care and other vital organ therapies,” a spokesperson for Vantive said.
A Golden Valley city official said that Baxter has not yet been confirmed as the end user at the property.
However, the city council approved a conditional use permit for a laboratory at the site in May.
According to city documents, the company expects about 200 employees to work at the facility.
