Eden Prairie Invites Residents To Share Their "Quality Of Life" Feedback And Participate In Black History Month Contest

Eden Prairie is seeking input from its residents to understand their perception of the City's "Quality of Life." An online survey open through January 27 aims to collect feedback on various aspects like safety, city services, and the general living experience in the area. According to the report released by the City of Eden Prairie, the insight garnered from this National Community SurveyTM will inform policy-making and help gauge Eden Prairie's standing against other communities both within Minnesota and across the nation. All residents, beyond the pre-selected 2,000 households, are encouraged to offer their insights.

Furthermore, the youth of Eden Prairie have a chance to engage with an important facet of American history. A "Words in Action" contest aligned with Black History Month calls upon students from kindergarten to 12th grade to create art, writings, or digital media that draw inspiration from quotes by Black American civil rights leaders. The City will honor the winners in a council meeting and share their work on the City's online platforms. Entries must be submitted by February 3, details of which can be found on the City's website.

Meanwhile, re-elected Council Members PG Narayanan and Lisa Toomey took their oaths for new terms stretching up to the end of 2028. They were sworn in at a recent City Council meeting, promising another four years of service to their community. Accompanying this event were presentations by the Planning Commission and the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission during a City Council workshop. These commissions reflected on their achievements in 2024 and laid out plans for 2025, with the Planning Commission emphasizing their processed land-use applications and text amendments, while the latter showcased their contributions to park projects and sustainability efforts.

The path Eden Prairie is taking towards infrastructure and city development has been mapped out in a 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). City Council approved the plan on December 3, 2024, outlining projected costs, schedules, and the necessary details for improvements over the next decade. This strategic approach to capital maintenance assures the continued growth and well-being of the City's infrastructure.

Public input continues to play a significant role, with two proposals up for discussion at the January 13 Planning Commission meeting. One involves the construction of two industrial buildings on Blue Circle Drive – a space once the domain of American Family Insurance. Additionally, a code amendment on the table could change how office and medical office uses are treated within public districts, allowing for repurposing buildings for educational uses while maintaining the feasibility of office uses. These hearings provide a platform for residents to have a voice in the shaping of their city's landscape.

Residents are also reminded of the importance of adhering to Snow Emergency protocols. With winter in swing, it is illegal to park on City streets once snow accumulation hits 2 inches. Full curb-to-curb clean-up efforts by city crews will follow once weather conditions permit. For instant updates on Snow Emergencies and city meetings, including the Planning Commission and Sustainability Commission sessions scheduled for January 13 and 14 respectively, citizens can turn to the City's official communication channels or subscribe for notifications.
