The brew business described Berg as their "visionary architect" and "guiding force."
Tom Berg, the owner and chief brewing officer of Northeast Minneapolis' Falling Knife Brewing Company, died over the weekend.
The business provided the update on Monday, saying Berg died at his home unexpectedly.
"We are devastated to lose our dear friend, the visionary architect of what Falling Knife brews, and a guiding force in what we are and do," the brew business said in a Facebook post.
Falling Knife is closed on Monday, "to grieve this monumental loss," the business said. Plans for a larger gathering to remember Berg will be announced at a later date.
Berg was known as a die hard Minnesota Timberwolves fan and regularly hosted watch parties at Falling Knife for games. Besides being a respected figure in the Minnesota beer community, Berg was also well known around the Minneapolis music scene as well.
"There was nobody more passionate about Falling Knife, beer, and his friends. If you ran into him in the taproom during a Wolves game, at a show celebrating his love of music, or out at one of his favorite spots in town, you were immediately wrapped up in his warm personality as he welcomed you as he would his closest friends," Falling Knife said.
"Whether his lifelong work in the Minneapolis music scene, his passion for the Minnesota Beer Community at large, or just meeting him out and about in the world, it felt like everyone knew Tom. And to know Tom was to be loved by him."
No details regarding the manner of Berg's death have been released.
Falling Knife was first opened at 783 Harding Street Northeast Suite No. 100 in 2019 by Berg, Andy Rutledge and Dan Herman.
Prior to its opening, Berg was a nationally decorated homebrewer and a Beer Judge Certification Program judge. He also brewed commercially at Wicked Wort and collaborated with multiple Twin Cities breweries, including Venn Brewing Company, Back Channel Brewing, Flat Earth Brewing and Day Block Brewing, Brewhound previously reported.
