As winter fades and signs of spring emerge, Coon Rapids residents have a unique opportunity to bring more greenery into their yards. The city is offering trees and shrubs at wholesale prices, providing an affordable way for locals to enhance their landscapes. Residents can purchase a six-foot tree or a two-foot shrub at significantly reduced costs, avoiding the typical garden center markups. However, supplies are limited, and sales operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The offer is available until April 23, or until inventory runs out.
According to an official city announcement, these green giants and miniatures come in #10 and #2 containers, respectively.
The price of each tree and shrub includes tax and a home delivery service set for the week of April 28. To make things even easier, deliveries will be carefully placed in a shaded area near the home, eliminating the usual hassle of figuring out where to put them upon arrival.
For enthusiasts of Indigenous flora, the city heralds the return of Native Plant Kits, available for order and in-person collection at the Public Works Open House. Save the date and set a reminder for May 17, between 10:00 a.m. and noon. If that timing feels inconvenient, reach out to sustainability@coonrapidsmn.gov before the event to arrange an alternative pickup. Missing the Open House or failing to make other arrangements by May 17 will mean forfeiting the chance to claim items.
