The Minnesota Department of Transportation is set to build a third lane in each direction on Highway 10 in Coon Rapids between Round Lake Boulevard and Hanson Boulevard. The work is set to begin on Monday, March 31 – weather permitting. But it will come with some short term pain for drivers.
"You're going to find single lane traffic in either direction throughout the summer," said MnDOT's Kent Barnard.
Barnard said motorists need to be patient.
"You're going to encounter some congestion from the construction from the lane closures,” Barnard said.
Drivers will experience delays, so they should plan to give themselves extra time when planning to drive on Highway 10 in Coon Rapids. They will also see ramp closures at both Round Lake Boulevard and Main Street during the project.
"They won't be closed the entire time, but they will be closed for long stretches of time through here," Barnard said.
MnDOT will also be constructing noise walls. A map on the MnDOT website shows two noise walls on the south side of Highway 10, and one on the north side.
"We will be providing updates on the closures and on the traffic restrictions up here on our website," Barnard said.
You can also sign up for email alerts.
"That's going to be the best way for people to find out what's happening out here," Barnard said.
With good weather, you can expect the majority of the project to be completed by November 2025.
