COON RAPIDS, Minn. (MinneapoliMedia) – June 1, 2025 – Young cyclists in Coon Rapids had the opportunity to learn crucial safety skills and test their riding abilities at the annual Bike Rodeo held on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The free event, which ran from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lions Coon Creek Park (11861 Hanson Blvd NW), aimed to instill safe cycling habits in children and families within the community.
Hosted by the Coon Rapids Police Department in collaboration with the Coon Rapids Fire Department, Allina Health, and Safe Kids Anoka County, the Bike Rodeo offered a comprehensive approach to bicycle safety. Attendees, primarily aged 4-18 though all were welcome, participated in a variety of engaging activities.
Participants received instruction on the "do's and don'ts" of bike riding directly from Coon Rapids Police officers. The event featured several interactive safety stations and an obstacle course designed to help children practice and improve their bike handling skills, including starting, stopping, weaving, and utilizing important hand signals.
A key focus of the rodeo was ensuring proper equipment fit. Officers were on hand to correctly fit children to their bikes and provide helmet fittings. Helmets were also available for sale at the event. For those without a bicycle, a limited number of loaner bikes were made available.
Adding to the excitement, young attendees had the chance to win a free bike, with bicycles donated by Toys for Joy MN.
