GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (MinneapoliMedia) – June 2, 2025 – Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green has been placed on paid administrative leave, city officials confirmed over the weekend. The leave is effective immediately and will continue "until further notice pending review of a complaint."
In a statement, the City of Golden Valley did not provide details regarding the nature of the complaint, citing state law that restricts the release of such information.
During Chief Green's absence, Assistant Police Chiefs Alice White and Rudy Perez will co-lead the Golden Valley Police Department.
Chief Green was appointed to lead the department in the fall of 2022, becoming the city's first Black police chief. His appointment came during a period of significant challenges for the department, which had faced an external investigation into allegations of a toxic workplace culture, racism, and the unauthorized distribution of private information—issues that predated his tenure. That investigation resulted in disciplinary actions, including the dismissal of one officer, and the department experienced a notable reduction in its number of officers.
Since taking office, Chief Green has publicly stated his commitment to rebuilding the department, fostering a positive work environment, and enhancing community engagement. A police accountability commission was also established in Golden Valley during his tenure. Prior to joining the Golden Valley Police Department, Chief Green had a 41-year career in law enforcement, serving in various roles in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
