The Coon Rapids Police Department is doubling down on road safety with a pledge that could net residents a Family Safety Pack.
Citizens are being encouraged to "Be Aware. Get There."—a mantra aimed at promoting pedestrian safety, reducing speeding, and eliminating distracted driving, as reported by the City of Coon Rapids. Those taking the safety pledge by the end of June enter a draw to snag the safety pack prize, a move to incentivize awareness on the roads.
On the enforcement front, the police have implemented additional "educational traffic stops" along the notorious Northdale Boulevard—a stretch that saw nearly 300 traffic-related incidents just last year.
The grant money from the Safe Road Zone initiative is now fueling efforts to curb these statistics.
According to the community update on the city’s website, these stops are not mere punitive measures but serve as reminders for drivers to be on the lookout for pedestrians, to adhere to reduced speeds, and to keep their hands off their phones and on the steering wheel. With the summer approaching, officials have also planned to put up new speed limit signs along Northdale Boulevard.
