Anoka, MN – The vibrant sounds of polka are set to enliven Riverfront Memorial Park in Anoka on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, as the highly anticipated "Rockin' on the Rum" concert series proudly presents the Bill Koncar Band. This free, family-friendly event promises an evening of traditional and lively music against the picturesque backdrop of the Rum River.
The Bill Koncar Band, a staple of the Minnesota music scene, is renowned for its energetic polka performances. Led by accordionist and vocalist Bill Koncar, the band features his son Andy on drums, John Dochniak on guitar and banjo, and John Patton on saxophone. Originating in Joliet, Illinois, Bill Koncar relocated to the Twin Cities in the mid-1980s, where he and his family eventually formed the band. Their repertoire extends beyond polkas to include waltzes, fox trots, Latin rhythms, swing, country, and classic rock tunes, showcasing their versatility and broad appeal. The band has recorded two CDs, "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and "It's Happy Polka Time," and are frequent performers on the "Polka Spotlight" television show. Bill Koncar is also a popular strolling accordionist, known for his comedic songs and sing-alongs.
The "Rockin' on the Rum" concert series, an annual summer tradition in Anoka, takes place every Wednesday evening from June through September at Riverfront Memorial Park (2201 2nd Ave, Anoka, MN). These concerts, running from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, offer a diverse lineup of popular metro area and regional performers, ensuring there's music for every taste.
