Coon Rapids joins a growing list of Minnesota cities making Naloxone more accessible to the general public, following statewide efforts to reduce opioid-related fatalities. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, opioid-involved deaths increased by 43% from 2020 to 2021, with fentanyl contributing to the majority of those deaths.

“This program is about saving lives,” said a spokesperson for the Coon Rapids Fire Department. “We encourage everyone—whether you know someone struggling with addiction or not—to carry Naloxone. You never know when it might make the difference between life and death.”

Naloxone is safe, easy to administer, and has no effect on individuals who are not experiencing an opioid overdose. Each free kit typically includes two doses, along with clear instructions for use.
