Energy Assistance Program Opens Oct. 1 for Coon Rapids Residents

COON RAPIDS, MN — As the colder months approach and heating bills begin to climb, Coon Rapids residents will once again have access to the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), which opens its application process on October 1, 2025. The program, administered locally by the Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP), provides vital financial support to income-eligible households, helping cover the costs of heat and electricity.

Helping Residents Stay Warm

The Energy Assistance Program is designed to ease the financial burden of rising utility costs, ensuring that households can keep their homes safely heated throughout Minnesota’s long winter season. Grants are paid directly to utility providers and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligibility Guidelines

Eligibility is determined by household size and gross income. For the 2025–2026 program year, the maximum gross income limits are:

Maximum Gross Monthly Income

1 person

$37,439

$3,119

2 people

$48,959

$4,079

3 people

$60,479

$5,039

Households with more members should refer to the full income guidelines available through ACCAP.

  • Online or Download: Visit the ACCAP Energy Assistance webpage at acap.org/energy-assistance to complete or download the application.
  • Paper Application: Printed forms may be requested directly from ACCAP.

Applicants are encouraged to gather necessary documentation in advance, such as proof of income, recent utility bills, and identification for household members, to speed up processing.

Application Support Available

For residents who need help completing their application:

  • By Phone: Contact Patty Marz, ACCAP Senior Outreach Worker, at 763-783-4741 ext. 5.
  • In Person: Assistance is available at the Coon Rapids Senior Center on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Act Early

Because funds are limited, officials recommend applying as soon as possible after the program opens. The Energy Assistance Program operates during the heating season and is an important resource to help families and individuals stay safe, warm, and secure in their homes.
