COON RAPIDS, Minn. — The Coon Rapids Police Department (CRPD) and Coon Rapids Fire Department (CRFD) will kick off the city’s annual Season of Giving initiative on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Coon Rapids City Hall (11155 Robinson Drive NW). The event marks the official start of a month-long community donation drive supporting several local nonprofits that serve children, families, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence throughout Anoka County.

City Hall will be transformed into a festive, family-friendly gathering space, offering residents an opportunity to engage with local first responders while contributing to critical community needs during the holiday season.

Event Highlights

Holiday Donation Drive

Residents attending the kick-off event are encouraged to bring items that will help fill police cruisers and fire trucks parked outside City Hall. Requested donations include:

  • New, unwrapped toys for children of all ages
  • Winter gear: hats, mittens, scarves, jackets
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Toiletries and personal-care essentials
  • Monetary donations

These items directly support organizations providing food security, emergency shelter, senior support, and holiday assistance to families across the region.

First Responder Activities

  • Vehicle Tours: Visitors can explore police and fire vehicles and talk with the officers and firefighters who serve the community.
  • Meet Rocky the Raccoon: The city’s beloved mascot will be on hand for photos and meet-and-greet fun for families and children.

Who Your Donations Support

All donations collected through the Season of Giving campaign will benefit long-established and trusted community organizations, including:

  • ACBC Food Shelf (Anoka County Brotherhood Council): Serving local families for over 50 years with food, clothing, and emergency resources.
  • Alexandra House: Anoka County’s only 24-hour domestic and sexual violence shelter, offering emergency housing and advocacy.
  • Granny’s Closet: Providing essential items and holiday gifts to low-income seniors and adults with disabilities.
  • Toys for Joy / Anoka County Christmas Committee: Ensuring families in need have gifts and support during the holiday season.
  • Mercy Hospital: Receiving toys to bring comfort to pediatric patients spending the holidays in the hospital.
  • Toys for Tots: Supporting children across the region through their annual toy distribution program.
