COON RAPIDS, Minn. — The City of Coon Rapids has announced that the Coon Rapids Recycling Center will be closed on Thursday, January 1, in observance of New Year’s Day, in accordance with the city’s holiday schedule. The facility will reopen on Friday, January 2, at 9 a.m., returning to normal winter operating hours.
The Recycling Center is located at 1827 111th Avenue NW, approximately one block east of Hanson Boulevard, and serves residents of Coon Rapids as well as communities across Anoka County. City officials encourage residents to plan ahead, particularly given the increased volume of recycling and disposal needs that typically follow the holiday season.

The Recycling Center operates on a seasonal schedule and observes all city recognized holidays. Because New Year’s Day falls within the winter operating period, the following hours apply:
The facility is closed year round on Sundays, Mondays, and city recognized holidays, including New Year’s Day.
The January 2 reopening is often one of the busiest days of the year, as residents dispose of packaging, decorations, and household items accumulated during the holidays. The Recycling Center provides access to materials not typically accepted through curbside recycling programs.
Available services include:
City recycling staff remind residents to properly sort common holiday materials:
While the city operated Recycling Center will be closed on January 1, curbside trash and recycling collection is handled by private haulers, including Walters, Republic Services, ACE, and Waste Management.
Because New Year’s Day falls on a Thursday, many residents with Thursday or Friday collection days should expect a one day delay, with Thursday service shifting to Friday and Friday service moving to Saturday. Residents are advised to confirm specific schedules directly with their waste hauler.
The Recycling Center closure coincides with the closure of Coon Rapids City Center administrative offices for the holiday. While administrative and public works staff observe New Year’s Day, Coon Rapids Police and Fire Departments remain fully operational to respond to emergencies.
