BLAINE, Minn. - The Blaine Police Department will step out of uniform and into the dining room this Saturday, December 20, partnering with Special Olympics Minnesota for a Tip A Cop fundraiser at The Ball Park in Blaine.

The event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Ball Park, located at 10650 Baltimore St. NE, Suite 100, across from the National Sports Center. Community members are invited to enjoy dinner while being served by Blaine police officers acting as volunteer “celebrity servers,” with donations directly benefiting Special Olympics Minnesota.

Tip A Cop is part of a long running grassroots fundraising initiative connected to the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a global partnership between law enforcement agencies and Special Olympics organizations. During the three hour event, Blaine officers will assist regular waitstaff, greet guests, and encourage patrons to leave an additional tip as a donation. One hundred percent of these Tip A Cop donations go directly to Special Olympics Minnesota.

Athletes from a local Special Olympics team are expected to attend, offering diners an opportunity to meet competitors, hear their stories, and see firsthand the impact of community support. At similar events, athletes often share medals, speak with families, and engage with supporters who help sustain their programs.

Organizers say the fundraiser serves multiple purposes. Beyond raising critical funds, Tip A Cop events are designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. By interacting in a relaxed, family friendly setting, residents and officers can connect in a positive and personal way.

Proceeds from the event will help Special Olympics Minnesota fund year round sports training, competitions, and athlete support services. These funds contribute to equipment purchases, travel to competitions, and health screenings, helping ensure that participation in Special Olympics programs remains free for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The Ball Park was selected as the host venue for its community oriented atmosphere. Known for its scratch made food, HitTrax batting simulators, and self pour beer wall, the Blaine sports bar blends dining and recreation, making it a fitting setting for an event centered on inclusion, sports, and service.

Residents are encouraged to attend during the event window to support the cause by dining in and leaving a donation. Those unable to attend can find additional Tip A Cop events throughout the year across Minnesota through Special Olympics Minnesota and local Law Enforcement Torch Run partners.
