MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Coon Rapids Police Add Community Party to Night to Unite Celebration
COON RAPIDS, MN (August 2, 2026). The Coon Rapids Police Department will host a new community gathering Tuesday for residents who want to participate in Night to Unite but do not have a block party planned in their neighborhood.
The free Community Party will run from 5 to 7 p.m. August 4 at Lions Coon Creek Park, 11861 Hanson Boulevard.
Residents will be able to meet police officers, firefighters and other local first responders while viewing police and fire vehicles.
The gathering will also include free food, games and crafts. Advance registration is not required.
Night to Unite is an annual community-building event intended to strengthen relationships among neighbors and encourage partnerships between residents and public-safety agencies.
Traditional activities take place at registered block parties throughout Coon Rapids. Police officers, firefighters, elected officials and other city representatives visit participating neighborhoods during the evening when schedules and emergency responsibilities allow.
The city’s broader Night to Unite schedule runs from 5 to 8:30 p.m., while the Community Party at Lions Coon Creek Park will conclude at 7 p.m.
The park gathering gives apartment residents, newcomers and people living in neighborhoods without registered parties another way to participate in the citywide event.
Organizers say neighborhood connections can have a practical public-safety benefit because residents who know one another may be more likely to recognize unusual activity, exchange information and assist neighbors during emergencies.
The event also offers families an informal setting to meet local officers and firefighters outside an emergency or enforcement situation.
Coon Rapids has traditionally encouraged neighborhoods to organize their own gatherings, but the police-hosted Community Party is new this year.
