MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August 16, 2026) The Minnesota Vikings opened their preseason with a 13-10 victory over the New York Giants on Saturday, but a potentially serious knee injury to veteran safety Jamal Adams overshadowed the result.

Adams sustained a non-contact injury to his right knee during the game and was taken from the field on a cart. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said the initial examination did not look encouraging. The team was awaiting medical imaging to determine the nature and severity of the injury.

The non-contact mechanism and O’Connell’s preliminary comments heightened concern, but the Vikings had not announced a formal diagnosis as of Sunday morning.

On the field, Minnesota secured the three-point victory with a defensive performance that limited New York to 10 points. The preseason opener provided the Vikings with their first live-game opportunity to assess roster candidates, new personnel and developing units before the regular season.

The injury to Adams, however, could have implications beyond the preseason. The veteran safety joined Minnesota as part of the team’s effort to add experience and versatility to its defense. His availability will depend on the results of the medical evaluation.
