MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Anoka County Commissioners Turn Attention to 2027 Budget Planning

ANOKA, MN (August 25, 2026) Anoka County commissioners convened Tuesday for a series of public meetings that included a regular County Board session and an afternoon work session connected with planning for the county’s 2027 budget.

The regular board meeting was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Room 705 of the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 Third Avenue in Anoka.

A public-comment period was scheduled for 10 a.m. or immediately following the regular meeting. Under county rules, speakers are generally limited to two minutes each and comments must relate to Anoka County business.

The county calendar also listed meetings of the Anoka County Regional Railroad Authority and Housing and Redevelopment Authority following the regular board proceedings.

Commissioners were scheduled to reconvene for a separate work session from 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 710. The session was expected to include discussion connected with development of Anoka County’s 2027 budget.

The work session should not be confused with final approval of the county budget or property-tax levy. Budget preparation is a multistage process involving departmental requests, commissioner review, a proposed property-tax levy, public participation and final action later in the year.

Any spending levels, tax implications or program changes discussed Tuesday remain subject to subsequent county action unless formally approved during an authorized public meeting.

The County Board establishes policy and oversees county services including public safety, transportation, elections, property records, libraries, parks, corrections, public health and human services. Decisions made during the 2027 budget process will determine how those operations are funded during the next calendar year.

Residents may attend County Board meetings in person. Regular meetings are also shown live through the county’s website, and recordings are generally posted for later viewing.

Assisted-listening devices are available in most county meeting rooms. Additional accommodations may be requested by contacting County Administration at 763-324-4700, preferably at least 48 hours before a meeting.

The separate Anoka County Commissioner District 3 primary concluded August 11. Official results showed incumbent Jeff Reinert receiving 4,137 votes, or 47.2 percent; Melissa “Mel” Lawlis receiving 3,775 votes, or 43.1 percent; and Kevin Ryan receiving 855 votes, or 9.7 percent. Reinert and Lawlis advanced to the November 3 general election.
