Investigators say a 22-year-old man killed his mother and younger brother before dying by suicide inside the family's townhome.
INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN (September 2, 2026) Inver Grove Heights police have identified three family members found dead inside a townhome Sunday and say preliminary evidence indicates the deaths were a double murder-suicide.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victims as 43-year-old Jamie Lee Charles and her sons, 22-year-old Jaymison Samuel Shaw and 19-year-old Willie Samuel Shaw Jr.
Police said Jaymison Shaw is believed to have killed his mother and younger brother before dying by suicide.
Officers discovered the three bodies while conducting a welfare check at a residence in the 3200 block of 78th Street East.
Authorities had previously said there was no ongoing threat to the public but initially released few details about what occurred inside the home.
Police Chief Melissa Chiodo said investigators now believe the incident was confined to the residence.
Police have not publicly disclosed a motive or detailed how the three died.
The investigation remains active.
The identification is a significant update to the original discovery of the three deaths, which MinneapoliMedia had already reported.
Authorities are asking the public to respect the privacy of relatives and others affected by the deaths.
