Minnesota State Fair Remains Ahead of 2025 Attendance Pace Entering Final Labor Day Weekend

More than 1.08 million people attended during the first seven days, powered by record crowds on opening Thursday and Friday despite a midweek slowdown.

FALCON HEIGHTS, MN (September 4, 2026). The Minnesota State Fair is entering its final Labor Day weekend with more than 1 million visitors already through the gates and attendance running ahead of last year's pace despite a significant slowdown following a record-setting opening.

Official State Fair attendance figures show 1,082,023 people attended during the first seven days, from opening day Thursday, August 27 through Wednesday, September 2.

That compares with 1,066,682 visitors during the corresponding first seven days of the 2025 Fair, putting 2026 ahead by 15,341 visitors, or approximately 1.4 percent.

The advantage was built overwhelmingly during an extraordinary first two days.

Opening Thursday attracted 155,185 visitors, establishing a new attendance record for the first Thursday of the Fair. The previous opening-day record was 138,875, set in 2024.

Friday followed with another record.

Attendance reached 204,065, smashing the previous first-Friday record of 171,233, also established in 2024.

Together, the first two days brought 359,250 people through the gates.

The pace changed considerably after that.

Saturday attendance reached 198,842, essentially even with the 198,863 recorded on the comparable Saturday in 2025 but below the all-time Saturday record of 222,194 established in 2018.

Sunday drew 171,054, compared with 184,176 last year.

Attendance fell to 122,891 Monday, below the 145,022 recorded on the comparable Monday in 2025.

Tuesday brought 112,836 visitors, compared with 132,553 last year, while Wednesday attendance rebounded slightly to 117,150, exceeding the 114,932 recorded on the comparable Wednesday in 2025.

The seven-day attendance figures show how consequential the record-breaking opening was.

Although 2026 trailed last year's attendance on four of the seven completed days, the enormous gains recorded during the opening Thursday and Friday were sufficient to keep cumulative attendance ahead of 2025 entering the Fair's final stretch.

The question now is what happens over Labor Day weekend.

Friday begins the final four days of the 12-day Fair, traditionally one of the busiest stretches of the annual event.

MPR Day programming is scheduled Friday at Dan Patch Park, with HARDY and McCoy Moore performing at the Grandstand Friday evening.

Saturday brings FFA Day and Pan-Latino Day, along with a Grandstand concert featuring TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue.

Sunday includes Friends of the Fair Day and Cultural Destinations Day, while the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest Finals are scheduled for Sunday evening.

Labor Day Monday closes the 2026 Fair with Kids Day and Hmong Minnesota Day, along with a 3 p.m. Grandstand performance by CeCe Winans.

The broader attendance benchmark remains formidable.

The Minnesota State Fair's all-time attendance record is 2,126,551, established in 2019.

The 2025 Fair finished with 1,940,869 visitors, while 2024 recorded 1,925,904.

Whether 2026 can approach or surpass the 2019 record will depend heavily on attendance during the final five days, including Thursday's attendance figure, which had not yet been published by the Fair when MinneapoliMedia reviewed the official numbers Friday morning.

The Fair publishes each day's attendance the following day, generally between noon and 3 p.m.

That means Thursday's figure will provide an important indication of whether the enormous opening-weekend crowds have translated into a genuine challenge to the overall attendance record or merely compensated for softer crowds during the middle of the Fair.

What is already established is that 2026 began differently.

A record 155,185 people arrived on opening Thursday.

Another record 204,065 arrived Friday.

The crowds subsequently moderated, but those two days created enough of an attendance cushion that the Fair enters its final Labor Day weekend ahead of last year's cumulative pace.

Four of the year's most consequential attendance days are still ahead.
