Labor Day weekend is down to its final two days, but there is still enough happening across the Twin Cities to build several completely different weekends.

Sunday can mean world cultures and the State Fair, Broadway theater in Saint Paul, championship dog racing in Shakopee, jazz downtown, an art market in the St. Croix Valley, science at the Bell Museum or free music beside Lake Harriet.

Monday can begin with runners on Victory Memorial Drive, continue with bluegrass beside Minnehaha Falls or Hmong Minnesota Day at the State Fair, and end with Nina Simone's musical legacy at the Dakota or reggae beside Lake Harriet.

And people who have already had enough of the State Fair still have legitimate options.

That is what a useful events directory should accomplish.

It should not force readers to search for an address after discovering an event, hunt for a telephone number when plans change, or guess whether a performance is sold out, registration is required, an outdoor attraction is weather dependent, or an event is sponsored by a political campaign.

It should give readers enough verified information to move from “That sounds interesting” to “Here is exactly how we can go.”
