EDEN PRAIRIE, MN (October 9, 2026).
Eden Prairie police have arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with a shooting outside Eden Prairie High School during last week's homecoming football game, an incident that injured two people and forced the evacuation of the stadium.
Police arrested the St. Louis Park man Thursday, October 8, following an investigation into the October 2 shooting.
Local reporting identifies the suspect as Adam Abdihakeem Adam, 18, of St. Louis Park. An arrest is not a conviction, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The arrest represents an important development for a school community that experienced an abrupt and frightening interruption to what should have been a celebratory evening.
The shooting occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. in a parking area near the north side of Eden Prairie High School while the school's football team was playing Minnetonka.
Two people were injured and transported for medical treatment. Earlier reporting described their injuries as non-life-threatening.
Authorities indicated that neither injured person was a student at Eden Prairie or Minnetonka High School.
The incident prompted the evacuation of Aerie Stadium and interrupted the game during the second half.
Students, families and other attendees were directed through emergency procedures, including reunification arrangements at nearby Round Lake Park.
Police previously indicated that they believed the shooting was targeted, rather than a random attack on spectators.
Police announced Thursday that they had taken an 18-year-old St. Louis Park man into custody.
The arrest followed several days of investigative work after the shooting.
The precise charges, supporting allegations and next court dates should be confirmed through current court filings and prosecutorial announcements.
The arrest does not by itself resolve every question about the incident, including the circumstances leading to the confrontation and whether additional individuals were involved.
The shooting disrupted a major school tradition and required a coordinated response from police, school personnel and emergency services.
School officials subsequently provided support to students and staff as the district resumed normal activities.
The incident also renewed concerns about safety at large school gatherings, where students, relatives, alumni and community members come together in substantial numbers.
Schools must balance public access to community events with the need for security arrangements that can respond quickly to emergencies.
Investigators and prosecutors will now determine what evidence can be presented in court and whether criminal charges are supported.
For the Eden Prairie community, the arrest may provide some reassurance, but it does not erase the disruption experienced by students and families or the injuries suffered by the two victims.
The next developments will include any formal charges, court appearances and additional information police release about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
