MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Coon Rapids Overnight Street Parking Ban Begins Sunday as Winter Rules Return
The November 1 deadline brings a four-hour overnight restriction, while separate snow-removal rules can prohibit street parking outside those hours.
COON RAPIDS, MN (October 29, 2026). Coon Rapids residents who regularly leave vehicles on public streets overnight have until this weekend to arrange another parking location. The city’s seasonal restriction begins Sunday, November 1, prohibiting street parking between 2 and 6 a.m. through April 1.
The overnight rule applies throughout that period, including nights when streets are clear. Its calendar-based requirements are separate from restrictions tied to snowfall and plowing. The city’s published snow and ice policy specifies that November 1 and April 1 are both included. Vehicles parked in violation may be removed under city code.
Snowfall can trigger additional restrictions
Coon Rapids also prohibits parking on public streets when an accumulation of at least 3 inches is expected and until streets have been plowed from curb to curb, according to the city’s snow-removal guidance.
That means moving a vehicle back onto the street after 6 a.m. does not necessarily satisfy the rules during a snow event. Residents need to consider both the overnight schedule and whether plowing restrictions remain in effect.
The city’s policy also addresses vehicles that obstruct snow-removal operations at other times. It permits removal at the owner’s expense under specified notification requirements. The policy prohibits placing shoveled or blown snow onto public roadways, where it can create hazardous ridges or slippery areas.
How to follow plowing operations
The city generally undertakes full residential plowing after snowfall reaches 3 inches. Smaller events typically receive attention on busier main streets.
Residents can follow full-plowing notices through the city website, Facebook page and Notify Me email subscriptions. The snowplow hotline is 763-755-2880, option 5.
Before the restriction starts, households with multiple vehicles and residents expecting overnight visitors should identify parking arrangements that comply with the seasonal rule. Official guidance and notification links are available on the Coon Rapids snow-removal page.
