MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Free Lead Testing at Sheridan Clinic Connects Minneapolis Families With Prevention Resources
A Thursday evening event offers blood lead testing and healthy-home education during National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 28, 2026). Families can obtain free blood lead testing for eligible participants during a community event Thursday, October 29, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Sheridan Clinic, 342 13th Avenue NE.
Minneapolis announced the testing opportunity October 26 as part of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, observed October 25 through 31. Sustainable Resources Center separately confirms that it will provide testing and healthy-home education at the clinic’s annual Trunk or Treat event.
Testing Identifies Exposure That May Otherwise Go Unrecognized
The city’s mobile testing program emphasizes that a blood test is the only way to determine whether a child has lead poisoning.
Lead exposure can affect learning, behavior, development, growth and hearing. The city encourages families to obtain testing through community events or their child’s health care provider.
Minneapolis reports that more than 8,100 children younger than 18 were tested in 2025, compared with more than 7,700 in 2023. Hundreds of city children are identified with elevated blood lead levels each year.
When elevated levels are identified, the Health Department provides environmental assessment and case management to help families locate and address potential sources.
The Home Environment Matters
Older paint and the dust created when it deteriorates or is disturbed remain important exposure concerns. The city specifically advises caregivers to discuss testing when children are younger than six, spend time in buildings constructed before 1978 or have other possible exposure risks.
City resources include renovation assistance, soil testing information and free drinking-water lead test kits. These services address different potential sources; a water test does not replace a child’s blood test.
Preparing for Thursday’s Event
Sustainable Resources Center describes its service as free blood lead testing for eligible people, along with education about reducing hazards at home.
Its event listing does not explain all eligibility requirements. Families seeking those details can contact the organization at 612-870-4255 before attending.
The event takes place at Sheridan Clinic. The separate Southeast Minneapolis address appearing in Sustainable Resources Center’s website footer is the organization’s address, not the location of Thursday’s testing event.
Families unable to attend can consult the city’s child lead testing information or ask their regular provider about testing. Sustainable Resources Center’s event notice is available here.
