Minnesota's reported measles cases have reached 80, renewing concerns about vaccination coverage, disease transmission and public health preparedness.

ST. PAUL, MN (October 30, 2026).

Minnesota's reported measles case count has reached 80, according to Thursday's reporting, placing renewed attention on vaccination coverage, disease prevention and the state's response to a highly contagious infection.

The reported total represents Minnesota's highest annual case count since 1990, highlighting the public health consequences of measles transmission in communities where vaccination protection is insufficient.

Measles spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected individual leaves an enclosed space. Symptoms commonly include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash.

Although many patients recover, measles can cause serious complications, including pneumonia and inflammation of the brain. Young children, pregnant individuals without immunity and people with weakened immune systems can face increased risks.

Public health authorities recommend two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine as the standard protection against the disease. The vaccine is highly effective in preventing infection.

Minnesota's rising case count underscores the importance of accurate public health information, timely identification of exposures and accessible vaccination services.

Residents who believe they have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms should contact a healthcare provider before arriving at a clinic or emergency department so precautions can be arranged to reduce further transmission.

The case count remains subject to updates as public health officials continue surveillance and investigations.
