Nonprofit Good In The 'Hood's Impact Amplified With TEGNA Foundation Support

MINNEAPOLIS — Demonstrating the profound impact of intentional kindness, the nonprofit organization Good in the 'Hood has emerged as a beacon of community support in Bloomington. The organization recently received acclaim as one of the esteemed recipients of the TEGNA Foundation Grant, a distinction awarded to only eight exceptional organizations statewide.

Since its establishment in 2003, Good in the 'Hood, led by Reverend Shawn Morrison, who is also the founder and executive director, has embodied the ethos of extending help and nurturing hope within the community. Their mission focuses on addressing critical issues such as food insecurity and essential needs for various demographics, including low-income children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, immigrants and those facing challenging circumstances.

A standout initiative by Good in the 'Hood involves providing foot care services to individuals who might not have access to podiatry.

"We offer foot care through nurses who, although not podiatrists, provide essential care to those who might not afford specialized services,” said Morrison.

The organization's commitment to expanding their reach and services led to the introduction of mobile delivery services, complementing their existing youth programs, showcasing their dedication to holistic community care.

Reverend Jamie Morrison, Director of Operations and Human Resources, emphasized, "We're as passionate about food as we are about kindness."

Over the years, Good in the 'Hood has distributed more than $3 million worth of food and nearly 25,000 pairs of shoes, catering to nearly 12,000 individuals on a monthly basis.

The recent accolade of securing the TEGNA Foundation Grant was met with celebration and gratitude from the organization's supporters and community members.

"We feed over 100,000 people a year through our various food programs. So thank you. I'm just blown away," expressed Reverend Shawn Morrison, acknowledging the collective effort behind their impactful service.
