Coon Rapids To Replace Iconic Water Tower With New Cell Tower In 2025

Coon Rapids residents who've grown accustomed to the presence of the water tower near Foley Boulevard might need to brace for some changes on the horizon.

According to city officials, a new cell tower is slated for construction in 2025 that will stand in place of the current water tower located by the McDonald's at Foley Boulevard and Northdale Boulevard.

This initiative comes in anticipation of a new, larger water tower which is currently being built near Trunk Highway 610 and Coon Rapids Boulevard.

The existing water tower has its days numbered, set to be decommissioned, and torn down, bowing out to the rise of the new cell tower intended to maintain cellular services for the area.

For those concerned or inquisitive about the project, a public hearing is scheduled to take place during the Planning Commission meeting this coming Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m.

For those who want to reach out with questions or comments prior to the meeting, the planning department is accessible via email, or for a more direct approach, by calling 651-261-2233. Details about the project are expected to be shared with the public, allowing residents to have a voice in the developmental changes their community is facing.
