Coon Rapids Police Fatally Shoot Armed Man During "Domestic Incident" Call

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — A man was fatally shot by police Wednesday afternoon during a domestic incident in Coon Rapids, authorities said.

Officers responded to a 911 call around noon from a woman reporting she had been cut with a knife at a residence near 111th Avenue and Foley Boulevard Northeast, just south of Northdale Shopping Center. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man armed with a knife. Officials stated that the man moved toward officers, prompting one to discharge their weapon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the incident, as is standard in officer-involved shootings. No officers were injured, and the identities of the individuals involved have not been released.

This marks the second fatal police shooting in Coon Rapids this year. In April, officers fatally shot 40-year-old John Duane Fairbanks after he allegedly fired at them during a traffic stop. The BCA concluded that the officers were justified in using deadly force.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not disclosed further details about the incident.
