Coon Rapids, MN - The City of Coon Rapids is moving forward with a project to replace a portion of the roof at its Public Works garage, located at 1831 111th Avenue NW. The Coon Rapids City Council awarded a contract for this project on May 20, 2025.
The project, designated as Project 25-61 PUBLIC WORKS – 2025 ROOF REPLACEMENT, involves significant work on the existing roof. This includes the replacement of existing EPDM ballasted roofing systems with new built-up roofing systems, as well as the replacement of roofing insulation. Additionally, the prefinished sheet metal flashing will be replaced, and a new roof hatch with stair access from the mezzanine will be installed.
A mandatory pre-bid conference for interested contractors was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Public Works facility. Bids were then received by the City of Coon Rapids until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Bids were submitted exclusively via an online electronic bid service through QuestCDN.com. Project documents were available for download through QuestCDN (eBidDocâ„¢ #9618626).
The bids were subsequently tabulated by City staff and presented to the City Council for consideration at their meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., where the contract was officially awarded. The City of Coon Rapids reserves the right to reject any or all bids and hold them for 60 days.
While the exact cost of the awarded contract has not been publicly detailed in the immediate news, general estimates for roof replacement in Coon Rapids can range significantly depending on materials and scope. For instance, the average asphalt roof replacement in Coon Rapids was estimated at $17,682 as of March 2025. Given the scale of a public works garage, the cost for this specialized project would likely be considerably higher.
This roof replacement is part of ongoing maintenance and upgrades to city infrastructure, ensuring the longevity and functionality of essential public works facilities.
