MINNEAPOLIS, June 10, 2025 — A Minneapolis mother endured every parent’s worst nightmare after her partner fatally shot their 2‑year‑old daughter before taking his own life in a suspected murder‑suicide. The incident occurred early Monday in the 2900 block of Colfax Avenue North, according to Minneapolis police. Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. and found both victims — a man in his 50s and his young daughter — deceased inside the home.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the event as “an unimaginable, heartbreaking tragedy” and expressed condolences to the mother and grieving first responders.
The mother, identified by the Star Tribune as Trisha Prinsen, shared her harrowing experience. She said her boyfriend, in the midst of a sudden mental health crisis, held both her and their daughter hostage before the shooting. She texted friends to call 911 but was unaware at the time that texting emergency services was an option.
Prinsen also revealed the pair had no prior history of violence, emphasizing the suddenness and severity of the incident. “He had never been like this before,” she told reporters. According to Prinsen, her daughter, Kinsley, had responded with a hug — tragically captured in the moment.
Names of the victims have not been officially released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. Authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to come forward.
