Coon Rapids Recycling Center Adjusts Saturday Hours Due To Extreme Heat Forecast

COON RAPIDS, MN — Residents planning to visit the Coon Rapids Recycling Center on Saturday, June 21, should be aware of a temporary change in operating hours. Due to an extreme heat forecast for the region, the center will close one hour early, operating from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The decision to modify hours was made for the safety and well-being of both the Recycling Center staff and visitors. Temperatures are expected to soar into the high 90s, with heat index values potentially exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, prompting concern for those working and visiting outdoors.

"The safety of our employees and the public is our top priority," stated Colleen Sinclair, Coon Rapids Recycling Coordinator. "We appreciate the community's understanding as we take this necessary step to mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat exposure."

The Coon Rapids Recycling Center is located at 1827 111th Avenue NW and typically operates on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during its April to September seasonal hours. The center provides a crucial service for Anoka County residents, accepting a wide range of materials not typically collected in curbside recycling, including Styrofoam, motor oil, appliances, and electronics.

Normal operating hours for the Recycling Center are expected to resume on Tuesday, June 24. Residents are encouraged to check the City of Coon Rapids website or its official social media channels for any further updates regarding facility hours or services.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Anoka County, urging residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
