Burl Oaks Park Playground Gets Full Makeover; New Equipment Arrives Mid-September

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — Aug. 28, 2025 — Burl Oaks Park in Coon Rapids is getting a fresh new look. This week, crews removed the park’s aging playground structure to prepare for the installation of modern equipment designed for children ages 2–12.

The project will feature slides, swings, climbing elements, and updated safety features. Accessibility is also a key focus: a rubberized surface will be installed in the swing area and along pathways, making it easier for children and caregivers with mobility needs to enjoy the space.

Installation of the new playground equipment is scheduled for Sept. 9–12, with completion of the playground border slated for Sept. 15–19, weather permitting.

City officials note that neighborhood input played an important role in shaping the final design. A survey of nearby residents guided the equipment selection, with strong community support for the chosen layout.

Burl Oaks Park, located at 149 120th Avenue, spans just over five acres and includes open green space, a ball field, basketball, a walking trail, and the playground area now under renovation.
