ANOKA COUNTY — Residents will have several opportunities in the coming days to connect with local law enforcement, shop fresh produce, responsibly dispose of household items, and learn more about overdose prevention at a series of community events.
Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Community Open House
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Community Open House on Tuesday, September 23, from 4–7 p.m. at its headquarters, 13301 Hanson Blvd. NW in Andover. The free, family-friendly event will feature outdoor demonstrations and interactive displays from multiple divisions, including the S.W.A.T. team, Marine Unit, and K-9 Unit.
This year also offers a unique chance to tour the new Emergency Communications Center (911), open to visitors from 4–6:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from local food trucks.
The Farmers Market on the Rum will take place on Wednesday, September 24, from 3–7 p.m. at Riverfront Memorial Park, located in the parking lot adjacent to Anoka City Hall at 2201 2nd Ave.
The weekly summer market, which concludes its Wednesday schedule this week, offers fresh produce, cottage foods, baked goods, and farmstead products. Local food trucks are also a frequent addition, making the event a popular mid-week stop for families and residents.
The City of Anoka’s Fall Recycling Drop-Off Event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Anoka Municipal Utilities Shop, 501 Pierce Street.
The event provides residents an opportunity to dispose of unwanted household items, including electronics, appliances, and other materials. While some items are accepted free of charge, others require a fee. The city provides a detailed flyer outlining accepted materials, fees, and drop-off instructions.
Looking ahead, the Anoka County Opioid Solutions Initiative (ACOSI) will host a free “Spotlight on Opioids and Overdose” event on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at Spring Lake Park High School, 1100 81st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park.
The awareness event aims to shed light on the opioid epidemic and highlight local prevention efforts. Attendees will hear from experts on opioids and addiction, and a panel of individuals with lived experience will share stories of recovery and resilience. More than 40 resource tables from healthcare, treatment, and recovery organizations will be available, alongside a Naloxone education station offering free doses of the life-saving medication and training on how to use it. Free pizza will also be provided.
