COON RAPIDS, Minn. — The Coon Rapids Fire Department hosted its annual Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 11, welcoming residents from across the city to the newly opened Fire Station #3 at 3150 111th Avenue Northwest, across from Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
Running from 10 a.m. to noon, the event drew a strong turnout despite brief morning rain, as families gathered to meet local firefighters, explore emergency vehicles, and learn about fire safety. Firefighters said they “look forward to fall every year for the chance to meet and interact with the community at the annual Fire Department Open House,” a long-standing seasonal tradition in Coon Rapids.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including guided station tours, hands-on demonstrations, and the opportunity for children to spray water from a real fire hose. The event also featured live rescue and fire extinguisher demonstrations, refreshments, and displays of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency response vehicles. Weather permitting, visitors could also view the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.
One firefighter described the open house as “the wrap-up of our long week in elementary schools,” noting that the event provides a chance “for the public to get to know the firefighters [and] just to know our community.”
The City of Coon Rapids also shared its appreciation on social media, writing, “We ♥️ Open House day! Thank you Coon Rapids Fire!”
The Fire Department Open House has become a staple fall event in Coon Rapids, serving as both an educational and community-building opportunity.
