Minneapolis, MN — Hao Nguyen, a senior prosecutor with over 15 years of experience, has officially announced his candidacy for Hennepin County Attorney, joining the race to succeed Mary Moriarty, who previously stated she would not seek re-election in 2026. Nguyen is the second candidate to enter the race, following State Representative Cedrick Frazier.

Background and Experience

Nguyen currently serves as a Senior Ramsey County Attorney and is the director of the trial and appellate divisions, overseeing nearly 300 staff members. His professional career spans more than 15 years as a prosecutor. Prior to attending law school, Nguyen worked in law enforcement as a police officer in St. Cloud and a sheriff's deputy in Stearns County. A refugee who grew up in poverty, Nguyen often cites his personal experiences as providing him with a unique perspective on justice and equity.

Campaign Platform
Nguyen’s campaign emphasizes a balance between public safety and fairness. He has stated that his goal is to ensure Hennepin County residents do not have to choose between feeling safe and being treated equitably.
