Coon Rapids Police Launch ‘BRIDGE’ Initiative to Strengthen Community Ties
Applications Open Until October 27
Coon Rapids, MN — The Coon Rapids Police Department (CRPD) is inviting residents, workers, and students connected to the city to apply for its community-building initiative, the BRIDGE Community — an acronym for Building Relationships, Inspiring Dialogue, and Generating Empathy.
The BRIDGE program is designed to foster trust, empathy, and understanding between law enforcement and the community by promoting dialogue among people of all ages, races, ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds. Through collaborative engagement, the program seeks to create a stronger, safer, and more connected Coon Rapids.
“Our goal is to create an inclusive space where residents and officers can listen to one another, learn from each other’s experiences, and work together to enhance public safety and community well-being,” said a CRPD spokesperson.
Unique Access and Program Focus
Selected members will serve a two-year term and gain exclusive access to several opportunities, including:
- Monthly evening meetings (September–May) featuring engaging discussions on community topics.
- Direct interactions with CRPD officers and leadership.
- Behind-the-scenes tours of the police department.
- Participation in community events and volunteer opportunities.
- Ride-along experiences to observe day-to-day police work firsthand.
This year’s program will focus on developing strategies for law enforcement to better connect with and support local youth, with the goal of building positive, lasting relationships grounded in trust and mutual respect.
Membership Requirements and Application Timeline
Membership in the BRIDGE Community is selective. All applicants will undergo a background check to maintain the integrity and trust of the committee. To qualify, individuals must have a connection to Coon Rapids—either by residing, working, or attending school in the city.
Applications are open until October 27, 2025.
- November: Background checks will be conducted.
- December: Selected members will be notified.
- January: The first meeting of the new term will be held.
