The project is part of the district’s long-term “Building a Better Future” facilities plan, funded through a voter-approved 2022 bond referendum. District leaders say the investment reflects growing demand for integrated, community-based learning spaces that serve residents across multiple stages of life.
The new facility will be built on the former site of Crest View Elementary School, located at 8200 Zane Avenue North in Brooklyn Park. While the original building has been decommissioned, district officials emphasized that the redevelopment is intended to continue the site’s longstanding role as a neighborhood anchor.
Superintendent leadership and school board members described the project during the groundbreaking ceremony as a continuation of Crest View’s legacy, shifting from a traditional K–5 model to a broader, community-centered approach.

The Community Learning Center is designed as a multigenerational hub, combining early childhood education, adult learning, and family support services under one roof. Planned programming includes infant and toddler care, preschool and cultural immersion opportunities, adult basic education, and workforce development classes. The facility will also include flexible learning environments and community gathering spaces intended to support collaboration, programming, and local engagement.
District officials say the model reflects a shift in how public school systems are responding to community needs, particularly in areas where families face barriers to accessing educational and social services across multiple locations.
The $27 million investment is one component of the broader “Building a Better Future” initiative, which also includes security upgrades, classroom renovations, and infrastructure improvements across the district, including at Osseo Senior High School and Maple Grove Senior High School. The referendum authorized funding for a range of projects aimed at modernizing facilities while expanding program capacity.
Construction on the Brooklyn Park site is expected to take approximately two years. District officials have identified spring 2027 as the target for initial completion, with full operations anticipated by the start of the 2027–2028 academic year.
Serving more than 20,000 students across multiple communities in Hennepin County, Osseo Area Schools is among the largest school districts in Minnesota. The new Community Learning Center is expected to play a central role in extending the district’s reach beyond traditional classrooms, providing a single access point for education, workforce training, and family resources.
Local officials described the project as a long-term investment in both infrastructure and community stability, particularly in the eastern portion of the district where demand for accessible services continues to grow.

When completed, the facility is expected to function not only as an educational site, but as a centralized hub connecting schools, families, and community services, reinforcing a model that districts across Minnesota and nationally are increasingly adopting to address both academic and non-academic needs.
