MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Anoka County Warns Drivers of Paving Delays in Andover, Anoka and Ramsey
ANOKA COUNTY, MN (July 30, 2026). Drivers traveling through Andover, Anoka and Ramsey should prepare for delays as Anoka County begins paving work Friday afternoon on two county highways.
The Anoka County Highway Department said paving will take place on County State Aid Highways 9 and 116 beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, July 31. The work is expected to continue into Saturday, August 1.
Traffic signals in the construction area will remain in normal operation until 8 p.m. Friday. After that time, the signals will be placed in flashing mode while crews continue the paving operation, according to the county.
The county did not announce a complete closure of either highway, but lane restrictions, construction equipment and work crews are expected to slow traffic through the affected areas.
Drivers should reduce their speed, follow posted construction directions and leave additional space between vehicles. Motorists should also be prepared for temporary traffic-control changes as paving progresses.
The work affects a heavily traveled North Metro corridor connecting residential neighborhoods, businesses and major routes in Andover, Anoka and Ramsey. Even without a full closure, paving operations can produce backups when traffic is reduced to fewer lanes or directed through a work zone.
Motorists who can avoid the affected portion of the corridor during the Friday afternoon and evening travel period may want to consider alternate routes. Drivers traveling through the area should allow additional time, particularly after work begins at 1 p.m.
The project is scheduled to be completed Saturday, although construction schedules can change because of weather, equipment problems or other unexpected conditions.
Anoka County maintains an online construction and detour page where residents can follow current highway projects and traffic changes.
