COON RAPIDS, MN (August 14, 2026) The City of Coon Rapids is accepting applications for police officers, offering a starting 2026 pay range of $44.29 to $59.37 an hour, additional compensation for specialty assignments and increased wages scheduled for 2027.

The position will remain open until filled, but the city says applicants who apply before Wednesday, August 26, will receive first consideration.

Under the published compensation schedule, officers will receive:

  • 2026 hourly pay: $44.29 to $59.37
  • 2027 hourly pay: $45.84 to $61.45
  • Specialty-assignment pay: 4 percent above the officer’s base rate
  • Longevity pay: Additional compensation based on qualifying service
  • Benefits: A competitive city employee benefits package

Based on a standard 2,080-hour work year, the 2026 hourly range is equivalent to approximately $92,123 to $123,490 annually before overtime, specialty-assignment compensation, longevity pay or other eligible earnings. The 2027 range is equivalent to approximately $95,347 to $127,816 annually.

The city describes the Coon Rapids Police Department as a community-oriented agency whose officers are expected to provide exceptional service while maintaining strong relationships with residents, businesses and community organizations.

The department is headquartered at 11155 Robinson Drive NW and serves Coon Rapids, one of Anoka County’s largest cities. According to the city, officers are expected to approach their work with professionalism, compassion and respect for the community’s trust.

Police Chief Brad Steiner reinforced those expectations when four officers completed field training and received their permanent badge numbers earlier in 2026. Steiner told the Coon Rapids City Council that the permanent badge represents both a lifelong responsibility and the trust placed in an officer by the community.
